How to Create a Strong Password
Reminder of why this is important:
To prevent fraud, protect Moore's reputation, protect client data, and to instill better security habits and awareness for all online activity and accounts
Password requirements currently being enforced:
- Minimum password length of 16 characters
- Password complexity requirements are enabled:
- Must use 3 of these 4 categories:
- Uppercase letters
- Lowercase letters
- Numbers
- Special Characters
- Passwords expire every 365 days
- You will receive notifications of your password needing to be changed at 14, 7, and 3 days prior to expiration.
- Make sure you change your password prior to expiration to avoid extended downtime
Considerations for creating a secure password or passphrase
- Think of a phrase or random set of words that are easy to remember and type but hard to hack
- Incorporate non-dictionary words, slang and abbreviations
- Wazzup, selfie, frenemy, nbd, fomo, lmk, fyi
- Use unique and distinct word choices – Have fun with it!
- Use a line from a poem, song, movie, story, quote as a basis for coming up with a phrase
- To be or not to be: that is the question = 2B/not2BThatisthe? = 18 chars
- What a Wonderful World = Whata@onder4lWorld = 18 chars
- We’re gonna need a bigger boat = w’rGoing2needABigBoat = 21 chars
- Long nonsense phrase of 4 or 5 words unrelated to each other
- Brown foxes have 4 feet = 23 chars
- Get to da choppah because this is Sparta! = 41 chars
- Don’t table the coat flood = 26 chars
- Take the first letter of a long phrase and substitute capitals, numbers and special chars
- AVOID using any of the following:
- Significant dates, nicknames, pet names, your direct quotes
- Information that can be found easily on the Internet or on social media
- Appended numbers or characters to the end of a word
