How to Access a Remote Workstation
In order to access another workstation from your current workstation, the other workstation must have your account set up to allow RDP access.
These steps must be performed by IT staff:
- Go to Control Panel and select System and then Advanced system settings.
- Click the Remote tab and under Remote Desktop, click Select Users...
- Click Add... and type in the name of the account and select Check Names then OK until done.
To connect to a remote workstation, you have been set up to access:
- Establish a connection to the Internet if you aren’t working in an office.
- Initiate the SonicWall VPN Connection software on your laptop – only if working outside of an office.
- If you’re logging in for the first time on a particular machine, the Host name = moorevpn.mooreengineeringinc.com
- Enter your workstation credentials (first.last) and then the MFA OTP
- Click on the Windows Start menu and under Windows Accessories click on Remote Desktop Connection and enter in the name of the computer you want to remote into (MEI-WSnnn).
- Once you’ve established a connection, log in with your workstation credentials and you’re all set.
- There will naturally be a slight delay in movements and commands but as long as your internet connection is decent, you shouldn’t have any issues.
To see multiple screens if you have them from where you’re connecting from:
- Start the RDP client but do not click Connect.
- Click on Show Options.
- Click on the Display tab.
- Check the box for Use all my monitors for the remote session.
- Click on the Local Resources tab.
- Uncheck the box for Printers under Local devices and resources.
- This turns off mapping of printers through the RDP session so you don't accidentally print something in the office you didn't intend to.
- Now when you Connect it should display across all monitors.
- This can be toggled on and off but has to be changed when there is no remote session in progress.
