Sharing Videos During Teams Meetings
Everyone has experienced it. You’re in a Teams meeting and someone shares a video clip and it does not start right away, the sound is non-existent or not in sync with video, the video starts and stops several times, and many other annoying glitches that dramatically take away from the effect of showing or using video in the first place. By sharing your screen directly to play a video, it creates numerous technical and network challenges to actually get the video to show. There is a way to ensure your videos play with consistency and without the lag and choppiness we’ve all experienced during Teams meetings using PowerPoint Live.
First, you will need to embed the link to your videos into PowerPoint on the web or the PowerPoint desktop app. You just need to have the web URL for your video ready or the location of a video on your network or workstation and insert into a PowerPoint slide as follows:
-
Insert --> Video --> Online Video…
- This works for video links from YouTube, Vimeo, Stream/OneDrive, and SlideShare
-
Copy the URL link for the video you want and paste into the bar at the top and click Insert:

- Resize the video to fit the entire slide and you’re ready to play it
-
To include videos from your OneDrive or to insert from your hard drive:
-
Insert --> Video --> This Device… and navigate to the video on your hard drive and Insert
- Resize the video to fit the entire slide
To show the video during a Teams meeting:
- Go to the Share content button and select your PowerPoint Live file in the list at the bottom of the pop-up OR go to the window with your PowerPoint presentation on it containing the video(s)
- Make sure Include computer sound slider bar is on
- It takes several minutes depending on which method is used and the size of the video to render the entire presentation so do ahead of meeting
