Troubleshooting Slow Workstation Performance
Is your workstation all of a sudden running slower than normal? Here are some steps to try and get it running back in peak performance:
- Try rebooting first. This will work in a majority of cases where performance is lacking
- Check to ensure that you are on a wired Ethernet connection if working from your desk
- Some more complicated applications do not perform well over a Wi-Fi connection when in the office, AutoCAD is one example.
- If you are working from home, perform a speed test on your internet connection to ensure you are getting consistent speeds from your provider.
- If speeds are less than expected or inconsistent, try rebooting your cable modem, DSL router, or Wi-Fi router by pulling power to them for 30 seconds or more.
- Try connecting via a wired Ethernet cable to your Wi-Fi router as this can help with spotty Wi-Fi signals within your house.
- If you have a Microsoft Surface workstation, perform the firmware upgrades as outlined in the help article "Microsoft Surface Firmware Updates"
- If none of these steps improve your performance, please submit a ticket to IT Help for us to look into the issue.
- Please provide as much detail as possible as to what, when, where etc. the slowness is occurring.
